Square D PS 200 amp Bus Plug for Riser Busway

Overview

Square D’s 200 amp, fusible PS bus plug is used in place of a PQ 200 amp bus plug for a vertical, “riser” application.

Background

Square D currently manufacturers the I-Line busway series for a variety of applications. One application is to supply power to a manufacturing floor. In this context the busway is normally hung horizontal to the plant floor.

To pull 125 to 200 amps from horizontally installed I-Line bus duct a PQ 200 amp, fusible bus plug fits the bill.

The drawing above illustrates a common horizontal busway layout. The busway in the drawing is being fed directly from the switchgear, as opposed to a tap box at the start of the run.

However, if the busway is installed vertically, running up through the floors of the building, then a PS style bus plug is required to draw 125 to 200 amps and get fused over-current protection. (A  breaker-style I-Line bus plug is another more expensive option).

Comparing the PS and PQ Style I-Line Bus Plugs

The 200 amp PS and PQ style bus plugs, while appearing similar are different in their mounting.

The 200 amp PS bus plug has a mounting rack that allows for installation on the vertically hanging riser bus duct.

Additionally, the stabs are rotated 90 degrees, so the body of the bus plug rides along the vertically hanging bus duct.
